Can you help ?

Arcade, a local Christian charity, is running interactive alcohol and drug education projects in schools in Reading, Wokingham and Bracknell. The projects work with pupils between the ages of 10 and 13 years of age. We are looking to recruit volunteers who could help with these projects. The main aim of all of our work is to build self esteem, develop decision making skills and provide age appropriate alcohol and drug education.

'Amaze' is a project for 10/11 year olds and is delivered in a morning 8am-12noon. The project is based around a maze which the children access with a mp3 player and headset. There are five outer zones which the children visit in small groups. We need volunteers who will lead small groups through the project or provide support in a given role.

'into the unknown' works with young people who are 12/13 years old and is run over an evening and a day. The evening part of the project welcomes parents to experience what their child will be learning from 'into the Unkown'. The young people will go through the project during the day in up to 5 x 1hour sessions. We need volunteers to run one of the four zones in the project.

Training will be given in 3 sessions and will cover the following areas:
Drug awareness
Knowledge and delivery of Amaze and Into the Unknown
The chance to work with young people on various projects
Communication skills.
Working with children and young people in schools
Health and safety and safeguarding Children and Young People

This volunteer postition will require a DBS (CRB) and all volunteers will be interviewed and references taken. Training will be given on each project. The volunteer position will benefit anyone who is thinking of working with children/young people in Education, Health or Youthwork.
